On love, garden, and dead bodies

An old gentleman lived alone in New Jersey . He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

Dear Vincent, I am feeling pretty sad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days. Love, Papa

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Papa, Don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried.Love, Vinnie

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Papa, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.

I saw this in another blog and I was kinda laughing at the story (and imagining the FBI people wearing compression stocking to cover their faces) but more than that, admiring the wits of the son.

I guess the guy has a point. Why would a computer genius try to create a software or application that can map outdoor water features or weather pattern or a GIS application that has social implications if an application like Instagram can be sold at a billion dollar value? Truth is I won't be surprised if someone makes a complex rock-paper-scissors app and earn millions from it.

I can only nod my head in agreement when someone pointed this out online: "Imagine what the cancer research industry could do with $1 billion." Yun na yun e.

Something's wrong with the humanity's priorities... with our priorities.

Sleepless

So, what do you usually do when you suddenly wake up in the middle of the night and cannot go back to your hibernate mode?

Ako? Make a cup of coffee, grab the TV remote, set the sleep  timer, and engage the machine to a race (who falls asleep first!).

I Quit

I was trying to be a man of a few words for the past few posts I made here. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but I started making one-word post titles a couple of weeks ago because I thought it would be fun! Hehehe. But lately, I have been finding it really hard to make the one-word title I want for my post. It's like I wanted a real wooden window blinds but all I can come up is a set of faux wood blinds!*  So, I guess I have to give this up. Hay naku!

Well, it was a nice attempt for me. Hehehe.

And hey, it's almost long-vacation time! Hope all of you have a good plan for this very long break. I and my officemates agreed to just make the whole week next week a vacation. ;-)
