Android vs Life: Round 1

Ever done something in your phone and then later on realized it would be one of the most stupid things you'd ever do in your life? (Sending your crush in Evanston flowers for her birthday is not a stupid thing to do... so, no, not that one.) Well, I'm guilty of that and I want to share with you my story. And how I was able to solve it. ;-)

A few days ago, I made some modification in my Android phone. This modification is supposed to make my phone a lot better. (Or so I thought.) But after the procedure, my phone acted differently. It stopped responding to the most basic commands. The HOME button -- a very, very crucial part of the phone -- ceased to do what it is supposed to do. Other applications either hang up or take a veeeery long time to respond. After a while, the only thing I could do with my phone is turn it ON, then OFF.

I thought of having it reformatted but I cannot make a backup of all the pictures and music I have in it. And I don't want to lose them just like that. My phone was almost... useless. I loved this phone -- and everything in it -- so much. For a few days, that phone became just a paper weight. I searched the net for possible solutions, and whola! I saw a procedure where I can hard reset the phone without deleting the stored media in it.

And this is how I did it:

1. Turn the power off. If your Samsung Galaxy S is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
2. Hold the Volume Down button
3. Press and release the Power button
4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
6. Press and release the Power button
7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO

If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the Samsung Galaxy S. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

And there! After that, my phone is back to normal. The media files (pictures as well as my favorite songs) are still there. The phone's system is fresh as "new". Everything is now back to normal. :-)

Now or never

By now, I mean, this year. :-) Before 2012 ends, I will be able to ride the waves and have a picture similar to this one.

The odds that I can do this is clearly against me. Exhibit A.

Wanna bet?

[Somewhere in] Quiapo

So, this is how it feels like to be in a place you haven't been to before. You wish you did not take that road in the first place. You are so disoriented you are afraid to ask for directions... so lost you are even so scared to ask where you are.
You don't want to be in this place ever.

To make things worse, I did not check Wikimapia before leaving my place. And now, I'm stuck here in..

"Manong, anong lugar nga ba ito?"

PS: To those who are asking me why I was lost, no, I am not looking for womens lingerie... I was looking for pajamas for my lola.

Waiting

Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige".

Patiently waiting for Nolan's "prestige".

Impeachment trial tidbits

According to Noynoy, it would be a huge blow to his campaign against corruption if CJ Renato C. Corona will be proven innocent in the impeachment trial.

He also announced that what Corona did was a violation of the law. It is not even a question if it is an impeachable offense or not.

Then, he urged the senator-judges to be fair.

Ladies and gentlemen, the president of the Republic of the Philippines, His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III.

Maybe he should just hide beneath a hot tub cover and let each institution work on what they are supposed to do.

No, I can't

I have an unlimited data plan with my Android phone. So, if I need to e-mail anyone, write an article for this blog (and others), check my Facebook account, I can do that on my bed as soon as I am awake. Posting an article in this blog is as easy as writing an e-mail (subject = title; e-mail body = article content) and sending it to a secret blogger address.

It's that easy.

It's been a new year's resolution of mine for ages to write a decent article (or make a blog post) everyday so my writing skills will improve. Hopefully. But I can't.

I also want to lose weight (and have a spankin' six-pack abs!) by doing some crunches and brisk walking everyday. I do not need anything to do that -- no gym equipment, no large stadium, no running tracks, no nothing. I probably need to choose the food I'll eat -- I won't have to starve to death, just choose the right food. But I can't*.

I also want to be mentally productive by reading at least a chapter of some books (still unopened in my cabinet!) everyday. I have at least 10 unopened/unread books at home and definitely so much more in my Aldiko/Kindle reader (Thanks, Android!). Still, I can't.

[Loyal reader(s): You probably are thinking I will be promising something cool today, huh? :-) Here you go.]

I had an epiphany last night: There are just some things you cannot do.

Problem solved. :-)

Touch

Something to look forward to. Tapos na kasi ang 24 e. :-)

We are all interconnected.
Our lives are invisibly tied to those
whose destinies touch ours.

TOUCH is a production of Chernin Entertainment and Tailwind Productions, in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Tim Kring created the series and wrote the pilot. Kring, Francis Lawrence (“Water for Elephants”), Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, Kiefer Sutherland, Suzan Bymel (“The War at Home”) and Carol Barbee (“Jericho”) are executive producers. Lawrence directed the pilot.
Blending science, spirituality and emotion, the series will follow seemingly unrelated people all over the world whose lives affect each other in ways seen and unseen, known and unknown. At the story’s center is MARTIN BOHM (Kiefer Sutherland), a widower and single father, haunted by an inability to connect to his emotionally challenged 11-year-old son, JAKE (David Mazouz). Caring, intelligent and thoughtful, Martin has tried everything to reach his son. But Jake never speaks, shows little emotion and never allows himself to be touched by anyone, including Martin. Jake is obsessed with numbers – writing long strings of them in his ever-present notebooks – and with discarded cell phones.

Social worker CLEA HOPKINS (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) believes that Jake’s needs are too serious for Martin to handle. She sees a man whose life has become dominated by a child he can no longer control. She believes that it’s time for the state to intervene. So Jake is placed in foster care, despite Martin’s desperate objections.

But everything changes after Martin meets ARTHUR TELLER (Danny Glover), a professor and an expert on children who possess special gifts when it comes to numbers. Martin learns that Jake possesses an extraordinary gift – the ability to perceive the seemingly hidden patterns that connect every life on the planet. [Much like if he sees tamiya models, he would be able to connect it to the real world -- how it would affect other people, things, etc.] While Martin wants nothing more than to communicate directly with his son, Jake connects to his father through numbers, not words. Martin realizes that it’s his job to decipher these numbers and recognize their meaning. As he puts the pieces together, he will help people across the world connect as their lives intersect according to the patterns Jake has foreseen.

Martin’s quest to connect with his son will shape humanity’s destiny.
