Silver Screen Favorites

Yup, you guessed it right: This post is about movies. Hehehe. When I read about Sheng's post re her favorite movies, I told myself that the same topic would be my next subject. And I am going to talk about them. Right. Now.

I have a Top 3 Movie of All Time. And I even used this as a gauge that will measure if I'd enjoy the company of another person. Hehehe. This doesn't fail me yet. ;-)

My Top 3 Movies in no particular order:

Finding Forrester

I still remember the exact day -- and the circumstances surrounding it -- when I first watched this movie. It was a dull Tuesday afternoon, and I have an STS class (5.30-700pm). I decided I'd skip class as soon as I signed the attendance sheet. (Everyone does that anyway.) So, after signing the sheet, I took an Ikot and headed home. But when I was about to pass by the UP Film Center, I saw a poster somewhere there that Finding Forrester will be shown that day. I alighted the jeep, and bought a ticket. Wow. That was really a nice movie! After that, Finding Forrester has been part of my Christmas wish list, until I got it from an officemate (from a top secret BPO company) last 2003. It was from a trainee from a batch older than mine.

The key to a woman's heart is an unexpected gift at an unexpected time.

You must write your first draft with your heart. You rewrite with your head. The first key to writing is... to write, not to think!

Good Will Hunting

This one... I first watched this from a VHS tape from my sister. She thought we might like the movie so she borrowed this from her classmate. And indeed, I instantly connected with the character. (Hahaha, feeling genius!!!) I loved this movie soooo much that I never wanted to buy my own copy -- I wanted it given to me by someone else. I received my copy from a friend. (Which reminds me that that copy is with an ex-officemate!)

You're not perfect, sport, and let me save you the suspense: this girl you've met, she's not perfect either. But the question is whether or not you're perfect for each other

Sean, if the Professor calls about that job, just tell him, "sorry, I have to go see about a girl."

A Beautiful Mind

Courtesy of Mareng Winnie Monsod, the economist. We were discussing the Nash Equilibrium in one of of her lectures. I got so interested in the theory that I decided to do further research about it. Then, I found out about the movie. So, I asked my brother to watch the movie with me (at the UP Annex, aka SM North EDSA), and wow. That was the first movie that I watched where people (us included) actually stood up after the movie and clapped. Wow.

There has to be a mathematical explanation for how bad that tie is.

What truly is logic? Who decides reason? My quest has taken me to the physical, the metaphysical, the delusional, and back. I have made the most important discovery of my career - the most important discovery of my life. It is only in the mysterious equations of love that any logic or reason can be found. I am only here tonight because of you. [Nash looking at and speaking to wife Alicia].You are the only reason I am. You are all my reasons.

Perhaps it is good to have a beautiful mind, but an even greater gift is to discover a beautiful heart.

I don't exactly know what I am required to say in order for you to have intercourse with me. But could we assume that I said all that. I mean essentially we are talking about fluid exchange right? So could we go just straight to the sex.

But of course, even if I have a Top 3 already, I also have a Top 10, hehehe. So, it's the above-mentioned 3 movies PLUS these:

Kite Runner, Shawshank Redemption

Dead Poets Society, In Pursuit of Happyness

For the next movies, I count each batch as 1. Madaya! :-)

Crimson Tide, A Few Good Men, Men of Honor

Braveheart, Gladiator, The Patriot

Before Sunset, Jerry Maguire, Meet Joe Black

There. These are movies I won't mind watching over and over again.

Next time, I might make a post on TV Series.

Migration... and Other Stuff

First thing's first: I am not really a super-blogger, but because of the recent downtime we experienced (and still experiencing now) with i.PH, I have now decided I am leaving the site. I will be blogging here from now on. And you might have noticed the morphing of the layout -- from a minimalist layout that I have in i.PH, now you have this.

(I can't access my i.PH to get a screen shot of my former layout, so, just take my word for it, hehehe.)

And look at my sidebars, hehehe. I need more income (who doesn't?), so, I'll try to take advantage of the opportunities this web-two-point-o is offering. I think I should have done this a long time ago -- I'll try to catch up, hehehe. And guys, if you have any opportunity that you might want to share with me, just leave a comment here. Or email me.

Second: I found a very nice place to relax, work, study, etc here in Quezon City -- the UP-Ayala TechnoPark. It is a one-stop place for a yuppie. You have a Starbucks open almost 24 hours a day, YellowCab, FlapJacks, KFC, TimeZone, etc. When I tried my sister's laptop there, there are a lot of WiFi's available (I don't know which one of them is free, but I am sure there is one). I bought something to eat at FlapJacks to have access to their secured network, and the connection is really, really fast! The food is great, too.

Third and finally, and this last one is a combo:
  • On the SuperLotto. I wrote a blog about this in my i.PH account. It looks like no one has won yet. The Jackpot prize is now at 300++ million. Deym!
  • On being a genius. Some say genius is the ability to go from A to D without passing through B and C. Did you know that Manny Pacquiao was awarded with an honoris causa -- Doctor of Humanities -- by the Southwestern University?
  • The EDSA Revolution. February 25 is a special holiday... a special working holiday. College students and below do not have classes, and corporate slaves still have to work. Sweet.
  • On the new baseline law. There will never be a war between the Philippines and China. Slaughter or massacre is more likely to happen. Of course there is no need to explain who the prey is, right?
There.

I am trying to put up an Amazon Store. Anyone here have an experience on that? For marketing experts, I think this could be a potential gold mine.

Job Opportunity

Check the requirements below:
  • Are you currently looking for a job?
  • Are you married?
  • Are you willing to be “trained” further?
  • Do you have strong knees?
  • Are you willing to work long hours?
Then, Durex wants you! Hahaha, parang commercial talaga no? Just a few days ago, I saw a link at inquirer and it led me to this announcement:

Durex announced that it will be needing 500 condom testers. The complete requirements can be found in their web site. The task of the chosen ones is to try Durex products for 4 weeks, and after which, make a testimonial of sorts and submit it to them. The writer of the best testimonial (theme, I think, should revolve around the question What makes me the best condonm tester?) will receive 50,000.00 cash prize. I don’t know if the rest of the participants will have participation prizes or something (maybe a message T-shirt “Professional Condom Tester”) but I guess you have nothing to lose if you participate. I mean, what can you lose by joining a condom testing survey/activity, right? I would definitely join them if I were married.

Here are additional, important requirements I found in their web site:
  1. The Durex Condom Tester promo is open to all married Filipinos living in the Philippines, 21-35 yrs old. Coverage of the promo is for Luzon only.
  2. Five hundred condom testers will be chosen.
  3. Short-listed applicants will be informed via email or landline telephone. They will receive a tester kit which contains Durex condom package (Love, Pleasuremax, Performa, Fetherlite, Tingle, and Strawberry). This package will be delivered via courier.
  4. Testers will be given 4 weeks to try out the products. And then, after this period, they need to accomplish an online feedback form at www.durexcondomtester.com.ph.
  5. The first 25 participants to accomplish this will receive additional free products courtesy of Durex.
  6. The tester who provides the best answer to the question "What makes me the best Durex Condom Tester?" will win PhP 50,000 cash, together with free products from Durex.
Complete requirements here.

Do you think this is a good marketing ploy or what? Coz I am so much sure that the church and/or some other conservative groups will say their piece on this one. Well, bahala sila. We are old enough already to decide on our own.

Sonnet XVII

Because it's Valentine's Day.... and because we all have the right to fall in love. (Hey! It's the 14th, I have the right to be mushy! Always am. Hehehe.)

Sonnet XVII, Pablo Neruda*

I don't love you as if you were the salt-rose, topaz
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as certain dark things are loved,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that doesn't bloom and carries
hidden within itself the light of those flowers,
and thanks to your love, darkly in my body
lives the dense fragrance that rises from the earth.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you simply, without problems or pride:
I love you in this way because I don't know any other way of loving

but this, in which there is no I or you,
so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand,
so intimate that when I fall asleep it is your eyes that close.

So, World Peace. And Love! :-)
