The Web 2.0 Generation

Because it is a weekend and I have nothing else to do (but finish 350++ pages of book so I can have extra moolahs), I decided to write yet another scholarly article. (Yeah, right!)

I stumbled upon an article recounting the story of a college kid who was offered a job at CISCO. The kid made a tweet about it (Cisco just offered me a job! Now I have to weigh the utility of a fatty paycheck against the daily commute to San Jose and hating the work.); the higher ups at CISCO saw it, and the job offer was, well, take a guess. The CISCO guy replied: Who is the hiring manager. I'm sure they would love to know that you will hate the work. We here at Cisco are versed in the web. There, the job offer was revoked.

More than just sharing how it feels like heaven for you to look into the eyes of a goddess of beauty, you may utilize the power of Web 2.0
to connect to others, to network, to express yourself meaningfully, to promote a cause, etc. Social platforms have so much advantages that we should be taking advantage of right now. I know some people (gurus like John Chow, Carl Ocab, Yugatech, and Corics) are earning not just barya-barya from ads, reviews, etc. Some big companies use blogs as their newsletter. A number of people have blogs to show their portfolio for potential or prospective clients.

Did you know that Obama made his announcement for his running mate (VP) via Twitter first before calling a press conference?

What is my point? I guess nothing so awesome. Just sharing an observation... Web 2.0 presents us with risks and benefits. Let's try to focus on the good things it can offer, and avoid things that might hurt us professionally, psychologically, or in some other way.

Happy weekend people.

Social networks are generally fun. But we have to mitigate the risks involved in it.

amen. i wish somebody could come up with a tried-and-true, fool-proof formula on this thing (making mountains of $$ through web activities). at any rate, the Internet is part of our existence now so instead of dreading its impact, we could at least make use of it. so, how much have you earned so far Eks?

kg and wits>> ako meron. i even have a plurk (see yung top right portion nung blog na ito). i think it;s kool, lalo na if you are doing online marketing. but again, you really have to be very careful on this. you don't, for example, announce to your plurk/twitter you are going to the bank tomorrow at 930am to withdraw a certain amount. hehehe.

onyxx>> "so, how much have you earned so far eks?"

i have 5 paid domains, i advertise in google (adwords), i maintain two offline (brick-and-mortar) offices with 5 regular staff each, and i have no other regular job. i'm sure you can do a close estimate.

JOKE!!! hehehe. nope, i am not earning yet. sa adsense, naka- $1.02 since november, sa adbrite, $1.60 yata since jan.. so, a ALMOST $3 since last year. (ang tindi!)

I tried Tweeter just to see what it is. Then, about two weeks ago I deleted my account. It wasn't for me.

I would love to be as successful as J. Chow or even Yuga. But things are a bit slow and I still have a lot to learn. Ang hina ng ads ngayon. Barya na lang kinikita ko. ;(

LOL tama ka the internet is powerful - advantage at disadvantage at the same time. the problem with it is walang nagreregulate kaya yung mga wireless crimes wala kang laban.

i'm still not convince that i have to let the world know everything that i am doing. i mean, i am just an ordinary private person, and i intend to keep it that way.

rico>> buti ka may barya. ako, i have $1 sa ads ko since november o december yata! hehehe. but yeah, yuga's fortune will work for me.

PM>> i read an article about wireless crimes and somehow, some people get away with their crimes kasi companies na nakakahuli ng mga ito even pay these criminals to shut up na lang instead of having the risk na malaman ng mga tao na vulnerable ang systems nila.

kayni>> i agree with you in that aspect, but i think you can use "mini-web2.0 platforms" like twitter and plurk for other things like promoting your blog, products, or service, announcing events, write not-so-nonsense things na not yet article material, and some similar stuff.

I'm loving Twitter. I don't really do much updates but I use it to get the freshest info about things I'm interested in. Plus, I get to interact with people from around the globe and talk about stuff that nobody in my own little real world wants to talk about. He he. That last bit sounds pathetic, but it's really a matter of different standpoints. I believe that if something doesn't give you anything you find useful or, in the very least, amusing, then don't mind the bandwagon; it will get old eventually. :-)

We must be very careful to the things that we write publicly.
