Money can't buy happiness. (And then there was Nexus 7.)

I have been waiting for quite some time for Google's Nexus 7 to become available here in the Philippines. I don't want to buy tablet netbooks, so, I'd settle for this tablet for now. I am not a good writer/reviewer, so, I'll let the experts do this for you. This is a snippet from an Engadget review, one of the best sources of gadget reviews I know.

The Nexus 7 is an amazing package for something that costs a penny less than $200. It feels like something that could sell for much more. It has a great screen, solid performance and a clean, clear, uncluttered version of Google's latest operating system, Jelly Bean. 

...[W]hile we tend to prefer larger tablets that better differentiate themselves from phones, if you've been toying with the idea of getting a real Android slate but didn't want to spend big bucks for a big device, this is what you've been waiting for. This is the best Android tablet for less than $200 and the best budget 7-inch tablet on the market. For the moment. The race to the bottom in the tablet space is, after all, just getting started and, if the Nexus 7 is any indication of what's to come, we're in for a very good ride.

Money cannot buy happiness

We have heard not just once, not just twice or twice, that money cannot buy happiness. Maybe. Maybe not. I tried to make an "experiment" and see if this is true to myself. My experiment, I list down some things that I've got (and wish I have) and tried to remember if those things made me (will make me) happy/happier. And not surprisingly, my happiness level increases as the monetary value of the thing I received increases. With that, I formulated this happiness formula:

H = f (M);

where H = happiness and M = money.

Oh, I am sure some of you are saying to yourself: "I am so d*mn lucky I am not as misguided as this poor, stupid Eks." Noted. Hehehe. But when I got to Others*, something I am wishing and praying for so badly, the happiness level is actually a perfect 10! But note that this Others* has no monetary value at all!

*Others -- This is where my formula crashed!

I guess it is true, at least in my case, that money sometimes can buy happiness, but the a Perfect 10 Happiness level is something it cannot buy. With that, I am leaving you with my revised formula:

H = f (M) and H < 10;

where H = happiness, M = money.

Well, I have to admit, it’s more complicated than just saying that. I mean, how do you exactly quantify happiness, right? Well, the people responsible for this have these specific steps/procedures/mechanics:

• A 50-sentence essay is required for each nomination, describing the life story of the nominee, exceptional traits or character, what makes him or her constantly cheerful and optimistic, events in his or her life that demonstrated inner strength and resilience, and how the person made a positive impact on the lives of those around him or her.
• A screening committee will select the top 20 from all entries received by September 15.
• A selection committee and board of judges will then choose the top five finalists for interview.
• The “Happiest Pinoy” will be named and awarded P200,000 plus a plaque on September 30.
• The four runners-up will each receive P25,000 and a plaque.

So, there. Guys, I know one of you in my sidebars is super qualified to join. And I am sure the 50-sentence essay can easily be done.
